Organisation of Eight Regional Consultations on the Draft 2015–2021 Water Management Plan
The Institute for Water planned, organised and carried out eight regional consultations on the draft 2015–2021 Water Management Plan for the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning. The eight consultations discussed the catchment areas of the Sava (lower, middle and upper), Drava, Mura and Savinja and the catchment areas of the Soča and the Adriatic rivers including the sea. Over 440 people actively participated in moderated consultations that took place in Novo mesto, Maribor, Murska Sobota, Koper, Idrija, Ljubljana, Kranj and Celje.
At these consultations, experts verified whether the regional and local needs were adequately considered in the draft Water Management Plan. Experts from the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning, the Institute for Water of the Republic of Slovenia and the Geological Survey of Slovenia presented status data and highlighted the key problems in ensuring good water status up to 2021 and the basic and the supplementary measures that have been prepared based on them.
Basic measures include reviewing the obligations already assumed in Slovenia – they are based on the Slovenian and the EU legislation and treaties. Supplementary measures are needed where achieving good water status will not be possible using basic measures alone. The participants could also supplement and submit comments to the proposed solutions in the group and the individual parts of the consultations. Their comments will be reviewed by experts and incorporated in the 2015–2021 Water Management Plan as needed.
