Raising Public Awareness in Areas of Significant Impact of Floods: A Non-Structural Flood Protection Measure
In 2015, as part of its activities aimed at decreasing flood risk in areas of significant impact of floods in Slovenia, the Institute for Water of the Republic of Slovenia is organising a series of awareness raising events in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning.
The purpose of this is to help raise awareness and inform the Slovenian public (general population, businesses, people responsible for protecting cultural heritage and the environment) in areas of significant impact of floods about the government’s activities related to decreasing flood risk, flood records and information systems, forecasting of hydrological conditions and self-protection in case of flooding.
Invited to the events from areas of significant impact of floods are inhabitants and representatives of local communities, local companies, public utility companies, people subject to IPPC and Seveso and people responsible for the protection of nature and cultural heritage. At the national, regional and local levels, the event invitees include representatives of the Slovenian Environment Agency, the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief, the Civil Protection Service and volunteer and professional firefighters.
